There’s nothing like December in Manhattan! Once I get past the throngs of tourists, ridiculous traffic jams, and bouts of claustrophobia, I can’t help but smile at how festive the city becomes each year. I’ve been spending the last few weeks exploring the quaint Christmas markets that pop up around the city, admiring the department store windows all dolled up with impeccable holiday displays, and reveling in the happy energy that envelops the city.
The heart of the Christmas cheer is definitely in Rockefeller Center. The enormous Christmas tree is always a welcomed sight, despite how crowded it gets. As I was walking up to it (after leaving my favorite store — Anthropologie!) I heard the crowd cheering, all facing the ice skating rink. I got closer and realized that a man had just proposed to his girlfriend and she had said yes! What a spirited, happy event to happen upon!
I then walked out of Rockefeller Center towards 5th Avenue to see Saks Christmas windows, and then finally escaped the crowds to walk up Park Avenue, with its glorious Christmas trees all lit up! It’s definitely Christmastime in the city 🙂
