A few weeks ago I was dragged down to Times Square late at night night by a photographer friend in town from Paris who wanted to take some cool “NYC” shots. Most New Yorkers dread going to Times Square, as it’s crowded with tourists who have a tendency to stop in the middle of a sidewalk without regard to people walking behind them, and it’s basically just a safe central base for tourists who enjoy staying in the Square’s big brand named hotels and eating at the many chain restaurants located there. But Stephane is very persuasive and I found myself exiting the subway station at 10pm to the bright lights of Broadway with my camera in hand (looking very much like one of the thousands of tourists- hah). While I didn’t stay long, the energy and buzz in this part of town is always so contagious, and I left in a much better mood than I had arrived. My friend and I laughed at how prevalent selfie sticks have become, and commiserated with the man (3 photos down) posing with his glass award he had just won that evening, who unfortunately happened to drop this new prized possession about .2 seconds after I took this photo. (Glass shattered all over the sidewalk and the man and his friends cried). “The lights are so bright but they never blind me…”
Psst! Now that you’ve explored Times Square with me, go check out my friend Stacey Markel’s 30 minutes in Maryland! I love the photos she takes of her adorable children — can’t wait to see what she has in store for us this month 🙂
