This month as I was changing my fish’s water bowl, I began wondering what to photograph as my 30 Minutes Project. And then I realized that my fish is pretty darn special and deserves a bit of a spotlight – hah! Years ago, my neighbors asked me to feed their fish while they were on vacation. After they came back and took their fish, I went out and got one of my own — it’s the perfect pet for my lifestyle here in NYC. They’re super easy to take care of, and I had a wonderful family down the hall with 2 young boys who love feeding my fish while I’m away.
My first fish, named “Fish,” was super pretty and lived a couple of years. I went out again and this time, bought two fish, and named them “Mac” and “Cheese.” Cute, right? Well, unfortunately Mac didn’t live long, so I ended up with a fish named Cheese. A bit strange, for sure. But Cheese is seriously the sweetest fish. He has miraculously lived over 4 years now in his swanky fish apartment. When I come home, Cheese swims to the nearest corner and literally waves me down until I crouch down and wave back and make fishy faces back at him. My sister was visiting me recently and witnessed this strange fish behavior… she was amazed!
Cheese is a betta fish with beautiful blue and green hues, as you will see. And like his favorite cartoon character, he lives in a pineapple under the sea.
Now that you’ve met my sweet pet fish, please go check out the lovely Hayley Hay’s 30 Minutes in Switzerland!
Colleen – I love these images and your fish stories. Cheese has such beautiful coloring and definitely seems to be living a great NYC lifestyle. Looking forward to your November.
Colleen – I love your fish and all your images. Richard used to have this fancy fish tank when I first met him. I decided to his collection. Apparently I bought a fish that does not need friends and slowly the fish were disappearing. The fish that I bought apparently ate them. So I am banned from fish. However, your Cheese is stunning and such gorgeous colors.
