30 minutes in december {central park}

Dec 16, 2013

For this month’s “30 minutes” project, I decided to take you through NYC’s Central Park.  To be honest, I had to run an errand that was on the Upper West Side (across the park from me on the Upper East Side), and when I realized it would take roughly 30 minutes to walk there, I decided to bring my camera along for you 😉

This walk is such a regular route for me when I’m in the city, but I realize that when you don’t live in New York, it can be quite exciting to see the sights.  So let me walk you through!

This is crossing Park Avenue, looking downtown:

Above you’ll see the Metropolitan Museum (yes, I know how lucky I am to live only a couple of blocks from the best museum in the world!) + there is the infamous “slush” that occurs the day after a beautiful snowfall.

One of the many sidewalk food vendors + an artist’s portable gallery in the park:

Above you’ll see a pedicab; below is one of my favorite bridges in the park.

Ahhh the benches.  When it’s nice out, I love to bring breakfast or lunch and sit on one of these benches to watch the passersby.  A lot of the benches are engraved with a special plaque.  I’d love to have a bench of my own one day, although I looked it up once and it’s an astronomical fee…

Below you’ll see that a lot of the lawns are closed for the season.  But there are still PLENTY of places to sled and snowshoe and have fun!

Above you’ll see Belvedere Castle.  I happen to know that Santa is hanging out here for a few weeks, visiting with the kids who climb up there 😉

Clothes on dogs always makes me laugh.  I’m willing to bet these two Dachshunds are wearing cashmere!

I spotted some kids sledding on one of the hills.  Made me very sad that I didn’t have a sled with me.  I honestly can’t remember the last time I went sledding!  I will have to resolve this sometime this winter…

Isn’t Central Park just gorgeous, all covered in snow?

And then I ended up on the other side of the park, outside the Museum of Natural History!  I joined the hustle and bustle of Holiday shoppers and put my camera away 🙂

Psst!  Now that you’ve finished exploring Central Park, go check out the next photographer in our group’s take on the “30 minutes” project! She’s a lovely family photographer from Maryland:  Stacey Markel

    Colleen, I feel like you just gave me a gift. My husband and I have been planning a trip to NYC for years and I just can’t wait to get there. The reason I want to go so badly is because of beautiful captures like these. These are just wonderful and until I get there–they do so much to keep me excited and anticipating. Thank you for this post!
