“to walk with you and watch you grow”

Sep 26, 2013

I love volunteering for Red Thread Sessions, the organization that pairs newly adopted families with a photographer to capture the new love their family shares.  So I was thrilled when Marisa contacted me that she and her partner were about to become parents through a wonderful open adoption right here in New York!

I was pleasantly surprised that little Deo’s birth parent was willing to come for the photo shoot, as well as his partner.  It was quite a sight, with four loving adults huddled around a tiny, adorable baby boy.  This kid is going to have more love surrounding him than he’ll know what to do with 😉

Marisa and Mitch are going to be wonderful, kind, and caring parents to their son.  I thought I’d try something new on my blog and ask the new parents to put into words how their little boy has changed them, their favorite memory of the adoption process, and what they learned over the last year.

“Amadeo has changed our life in amazing ways. We are absolutely in love with this wee soul and are so excited to get to show him the world. Having him in our lives helps us to see everything freshly from a new perspective and adds a unique sense of wonder to our lives.

Our favorite memory of the adoption process has been getting to know Ryan through dinners and visits that often had very little conversation focused on adoption and lots of visits focused on getting to know  more about Ryan and his family.  We loved learning the story of Rory the leprechaun who comes to visit children on St. Patrick’s day- we’ll some day share that with Amadeo.

We’ve really learned to trust during the adoption process. Open adoption is all about trust. For adoptive parents, we had to trust in Ryan for growing our family, and Ryan has to trust that we will be open and share Amadeo’s life with him in ample ways.

We hope that Amadeo will grow up to value kindness, generosity, curiosity and creativity.”

With his loving parents guiding him, I have no doubt this little guy will achieve all that they dream for him.
