Last fall I took you for a little half hour stroll through the Met Museum on the Upper East Side of NYC. (Click here to go back and check it out). This month I decided to go on a little visit to Washington Heights (the tippy top of Manhattan) to check out The Cloisters, which is affiliated with the Met and houses the majority of its collection of Medieval Art and Sculpture.
As an Art History major, I truly do enjoy art of all kinds. But if I’m honest… Medieval art has never been a favorite of mine. I suppose that’s why it’s taken me a dozen years since I’ve moved to New York to actually check out the immense collection housed in a gorgeous museum designed to look like a cloister from the middle ages.
Although I did gloss over many of the items contained inside (taking particular note at the tapestry depicting the murder of a unicorn, the skull necklace, the flamingo tunic, and odd depictions of Jesus riding a donkey), I did enjoy the gorgeous architecture, stained glass, and beautiful gardens. And as always, I can’t resist the amazing people watching I am afforded in NYC 😉
Psst! Now that you’ve walked around The Cloisters with me, go check out my talented friend Karen Hunt’s 30 minutes this month!

Wow, what a gem of a place Colleen – you could’ve been in Italy! Beautiful, vibrant imagery as always!
Your photography is just so good. Everything is crisp and beautiful. I actually really like these kinds of places and really enjoyed this little excursion. Fantastic work as always.
thanks julia!! you’re so sweet 🙂 glad i could take you along to the museum!
Oh wow! It’s amazing these places exist within cities, right? So so gorgeous, friend.
Very interesting Colleen. One day I am coming to walk with you. I would love to walk through here – I am a middle ages freak, although they were a little grusome. Everything is so beautiful. My favorite image is the book. I love books and this is just such a gorgous image.
Colleen, I love your travels and the places you share with us. I love all of the details that you captured and the contrast between the color and the black and white.
